After an open search and much consideration, we are pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Joanna Ross Hersey to fill our newly created position of Associate Dean of Student Success and Curriculum. The position will allow the college to better serve students and faculty, to promote innovation, and to provide much needed logistical support in the college’s office. The process of this search reaffirmed my belief that there are incredibly talented and devoted faculty in CAS.
Dr. Hersey joined the university in 2007 and was promoted to professor in 2019. Previously she had served in the United States Coast Guard, where she honed her administrative, assessment, and logistical skills. A veteran of the Gulf War, Dr. Hersey provided support to troops and military leadership, receiving numerous team commendations while performing for three U.S. Presidents, numerous heads of state and visiting dignitaries. She has proven campus administrative knowledge having served on and chaired university committees, including the subcommittee on General Education, Enrollment Management, and the Student Grievance Panel. She brings leadership skills and experience overseeing six-figure budgets through her service in the non-profit sector, as President of the International Women’s Brass Conference and Secretary of the Historic Brass Society. Her marketing skills and online presence have driven strong growth in audience engagement for these organizations, interacting with tens of thousands of followers across social media platforms. Her vibrant energy, championing of students, and infectious can-do attitude will help keep the college moving forward.
I hope you will join me in welcoming Associate Dean Hersey to the CAS administrative office. She will begin her new duties January 4th, and her office will be room 211 in the Oxendine Administrative Building.
